May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, LORD
my Rock and my Redeemer.
Have you ever waited with anticipation for something or someone only to be filled with disappointment when it or they arrived? Maybe it didn’t come at the time you were expecting or in the proper packaging (not being at all what you expected). Life can be disappointing when we put our hope and trust in people and things rather than in a loving caring God. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12
The Israelites had great anticipation of leaving Egypt and going to the land God had promised them, a land flowing with milk and honey. But when the trip wasn’t as they had expected they began to complain.
The people said to God and Moses "why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt?“ Exodus 14:11 Then the Lord said to Moses tell the people to keep moving. Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through in the middle of the sea on dry ground. Exodus 14:15-16
Then Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you. In the morning Joshua said to the priest, lift up the Ark of the Covenant and lead the people across the river. So they started out and went ahead of the people. It was harvest time and the Jordan was overflowing its banks. But as soon as the feet of the priest who was carrying the Ark touched the water at the river’s edge, the water above that point began backing up a great distance away, and the water below that point flowed on to the Dead Sea until the riverbed was dry. Then the people crossed over near the town of Jericho. Joshua 3:5-17
It occurred to me that: Both Moses and Joshua lead the people through on dry ground by the hand of God. If God had not parted the waters in both situations the people may have drowned or became sick. The point being; before getting to the place God had prepared and planned for them, they had to walk across on dry ground. Many times before God’s promise to us can be fulfilled we have to leave Egypt. We have to keep moving. We have to trust God when it looks like we might drown and there is no hope and the dreams and plans he has put in our hearts only seem to lead to dry places. We must trust God knowing that in all of this, he is building our character and it will happen in his time.
God has made everything beautiful for its own time. Ecclesiastes 3:11
Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true. Joshua 21:45
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
