There is a story of one young boy that has been told countless times throughout history. The bible does not tell us much about the boy. We don’t know his name, how old he was, if he was alone or with his parents.
Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, a huge crowd kept following him where ever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Phillip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Phillip for he already knew what he was going to do. Phillip replied, “Even if we worked for months we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with all this huge crowd?” “Tell everyone to sit down” Jesus said, so they all sat down. (The men alone numbered 5,000.) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God and distributed them to the people. Afterward He did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. After everyone was full Jesus told the disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so nothing is wasted.” So, they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves. John 6:1-13 We know that this young boy came prepared to see Jesus. He came prepared for the duration of the time he was going to be there. With a heart to serve and to share what little he had. How blessed this young boy must have been to be able to give his food to Jesus. How excited he must have been when Jesus multiplied what little he had and fed so many people!! The amount of food in proportion to the number of people seemed to be insignificant. But what and who appeared to be insignificant became significant when touched by Jesus. There was more than enough to go around! Everyone ate until they were full and there were twelve baskets left over! You may feel insignificant; your name may not be well known. You may not have much to give. All you need is a heart to be with Jesus. “For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” You are significant to Him!! And that’s all that really matters! |
